Approved Course by the NICP. Earn 24 hours of credit towards your certification as a CPTED Professional.  NICP CPTED Professional Designation Qualifying Course

This course will be held at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center in room 3705.

October 23 – 25, 2023

This 3-day (24-hour) course is specifically designed for Law Enforcement Officers, City Planners, City Managers, City Council Members, Architects, Security Consultants, Educators or anyone involved in designing neighborhoods, schools, downtowns, buildings, or revitalization efforts. It is an effective way of fighting crime and promoting business. This Advanced CPTED course is designed to instruct students on the more complex issues of environmental design as they relate to topics such as: terrorism, lighting technology, human behavior, traffic calming, schools, ordinance writing and the creation of security guidelines. Extensive use will be made of practical exercises in the class in which the students will actually get to apply these principles to a variety of parks and housing complexes.

Advanced CPTED Course Agenda

Day 1

  • Effect of Color on Human Behavior
  • Lunch on your own
  • Parks & CPTED
  • Comfort Station Design (Public Restrooms)
  • Park Site Plan Review (practical exercise #1)

Day 2 

  • CPTED in Schools
  • Safe Schools by Design
  • Schools as Centers of Communities
  • Lunch on your own
  • School Offender Program
  • School Safety and Security Audit (practical exercise # 2)

Day 3 

  • Terror Mitigation & CPTED
  • Public Transportation and CPTED
  • Lunch on your own
  • Public Transportation and CPTED (practical exercise #3)
  • Advanced CPTED exam
  • CPTED exam

The event will be held in the Phyllis P. Marshall Student Center in room 3705.
