SUMMARY:FCPTI Advanced Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Course - June 2024
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nThe Advanced Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) course offered by the Attorney General’s Office is designed for individuals who have completed the Basic CPTED or 5-day CPTED for Schools class which includes plan review\, report writing\, lighting\, zoning\, behavioral management\, etc. Advanced CPTED will expand upon the Basic CPTED / 5-day CPTED for Schools course by incorporating new topics. Special emphasis will be placed on city ordinances and codes\, along with design reviews\, report writing\, and presentation skills. Lighting in relationship to the physical environment and the use of colors in behavioral management will be discussed. This is a “hands on” course which requires a basic understanding of CPTED concepts. Working exercises will be conducted throughout the three days in both the classroom and the field. Student participation is a must in order to successfully complete the class. Class participants will complete a working exercise which will incorporate a CPTED photometric or lighting survey. \n* This course is one of two courses necessary for the Florida Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Practitioner designation. \n** YOU MUST HAVE TAKEN THE AG BASIC CPTED (or 5-day CPTED FOR SCHOOLS) COURSE TO ATTEND. \n **There will be a nighttime lighting exercise on Wednesday evening. Please note the course schedule when you receive the confirmation notice.  \n***Course topics are subject to change. Earn 24 hours of credit towards your certification as a CPTED Professional.  NICP CPTED Professional Designation Qualifying Course \nThis course will be held at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center in room 3708. \nMay 13 – 15\, 2024 \nThis 3-day (24-hour) course is specifically designed for Law Enforcement Officers\, City Planners\, City Managers\, City Council Members\, Architects\, Security Consultants\, Educators or anyone involved in designing neighborhoods\, schools\, downtowns\, buildings\, or revitalization efforts. It is an effective way of fighting crime and promoting business. This Advanced CPTED course is designed to instruct students on the more complex issues of environmental design as they relate to topics such as: terrorism\, lighting technology\, human behavior\, traffic calming\, schools\, ordinance writing and the creation of security guidelines.
